Generating Time Preferenced Divisions

After talking to all of you, we realized we should blog a little more about the Time Preferences/Generate Divisions/Round Robin combine feature. These 3 components fit together to save you a ton of time - they allow you to poll players and teams to find their preferred weekly game times and seamlessly use this information to create divisions and make schedules. Doing this involves three easy steps:

  1. From the league page, click on the Time Preferences link on the league profile page to set the weekly time slots for the league. The various options let you control how many time slots a team can sign up for and the maximum number of teams per time slot, but essentially, each time slot represents the allotted time to play one game. Once you’ve input this and clicked save, team captains can log in and denote which time slots work for their team. All teams are defaulted to be available to play at all time slots, but the Team Captain can change this by selecting the Time Preferences link from their team’s profile page.
  2. Once teams have input their own time preferences, you can use this data to create divisions to group together teams that can play at similar times. Click the Generate Divisions link from the league profile page. From this page, you can create the divisions. Each color corresponds to a certain time slot or group of time slots (marked by the same color), and you can change how the time slots are grouped, the names of the divisions, the teams in each division (by dragging and dropping), and pretty much any other component of the groupings.
  3. Finally, when it comes time to make the schedule, click on the Round Robin Scheduler link. When you select a certain division, the scheduler will automatically pre-select the time slots that correspond with that division. All you need to do is click set the appropriate start and end dates, hit Add Timeslots and then Create Schedule. Save the schedule to complete the process.

Start your own Athleague network!

We’re proud to announce that Athleague has now opened it’s doors so that anyone can start their own Athleague network to run a sports league or team, or even organize a pick up game. You’ll have your own URL and be Master of your (Athleague) Domain! (Yeah, we love Seinfeld. What can you say.)

You can sign up at athleague.com by clicking Start a Network, or you can just click here. Be sure to designate the network as “Private” unless you’re starting one for an intramural program at a university.

So sign up, explore, and let us know what you think. We’re going to be adding tons of functionality over the next few months. For example, right now, you’ll have to organize a team to get a pick up game together (have the members join the team and then plan the pick up game as an event), but we’re working on making pick up games independent.

And we really want to hear from you. Be sure to give us feedback and let us know what you think. The changes you want to see will be the changes we make. Enjoy!
