With a Hurricane/Tropical Storm/General Sky-Borne Wetness threatening to keep much of the East Coast indoors for the weekend, there’s no better way to spend your time than reading about Athleague’s recent site upgrades. So without further ado, here’s our top 5 favorite site upgrades:

Recommended League Actions: Think of this as Athleague’s friendly way of asking Admins: “Aren’t you forgetting something?” Timely reminders of necessary actions keep admins abreast of necessary maintenance from score reporting to league scheduling.

Discipline: Other than middle school assistant principals, no administrator enjoys punishing a student but sometimes a person’s gotta do what a person’s gotta do. Keep track of every single ejection and suspension throughout the entire history of your network in one convenient place.

Payments: No, no, this isn’t an announcement about a new pay to use policy. Rather, Athleague now has the ability to support payments for intramural programs!

Request a Sport/Stat: Hosting a league for a sport Athleague doesn’t have? Feel as though the site is missing a key stat? Now you can let us know at the click of a button with the new request a sport/stat features!

Expanded Customer Service: This one is a personal favorite as I’m part of Athleague’s expanded personal touch. We’re still available 24/7/365 but Ravi’s not the only one who can take your call!

Do you have a favorite new feature that we excluded? Let us know on our Facebook page or find us on twitter at www.twitter.com/athleague !

As we’ve grown over the past couple of years, we’ve been luck enough to get some great feature suggestions that have greatly improved our site. One of the more recent suggestions we just got live on the site - Network Events. Oftentimes, intramural and rec programs will have school-wide events that don’t just pertain to one sport, league, or team.

One of our new schools had this exact issue - their program offered Yoga and Dance classes, and they wanted to manage these through the Athleague interface. So, we built a robust system to handle these sorts of events. To create one for your network, click the Network tab and then the One-time or Recurring Events.

As always, get in touch with us with any questions or comments you may have. Enjoy!

2009 is officially behind us, and quite a year it was. A lot has changed - some of which we can talk about (like the fact that our user base quadrupled) and some of which we can’t (stay tuned:).

But it’s time to look ahead. 2010 is here, and quite a year it will be. The first half of the year will see some major announcements. (Yes, we know we’re being creepily quiet, but contractual obligations are contractual obligations, so we have to keep our mouths shut for just a little bit longer. We don’t like it any more than you do.)

We’re also going to take the site in a couple new directions. Last year, we focused solely on intramural programs. We’re going to continue with this focus, but we’re listening to all of you, and we agree - it’s time to open up our product to other types of leagues. We’ll be rolling out new features along these lines over the first half of this year, but of course we’ll also continue to improve the intramurals aspect of our site. As it turns out, non-intramurals aren’t that different from intramurals, so oftentimes new features can be made with both in mind.

There is more, of course, but we’ll leave it at that for now. We’ve got some cool announcements, will be working with some awesome partners, and, most importantly, won’t stop making our site the best it can be. As always, if there is anything you want us to do, or want us to stop doing, let us know!

Athleague is proud to announce that entrepreneur, venture capitalist, soccer enthusiast, and all around rockstar Lee Hower is doing us the honor of joining our advisory board.

Lee was an early employee at PayPal (back when it was X.com!) and a founding member of LinkedIn. He is currently a partner at Point Judith Capital. He hails from the University of Pennsylvania, where he double majored in Business and Engineering as a member of the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology.

Lee plays forward, and roots for Team USA (big surprise, we know). Unfortunately, his favorite club is Arsenal, which we all know is less talented and successful than Liverpool. But, you know, no one is perfect.

He’ll be giving us awesome advice and product ideas (and probably schooling us in soccer). You can find his blog at http://www.leehower.com/ and a profile at http://www.crunchbase.com/person/lee-hower. Welcome to the team Lee!

It’s official - we’ve moved! Our brand-spanking new international headquarters are located in the heart of the town of beans: good ol’ Boston. The move was for many reasons - primarily because we’re huge New York Yankee fans and wanted to maximize the potential irony of the situation.

Seriously, we’re not Yankee fans. We really hope they don’t win the World Series.

Anyway, we’re adjusting nicely to the new place. Our offices are located in downtown Boston, next to the Park Street station (accessible by the Green, Red, and Orange lines!). So you know we’ll be organizing many game at the historic Boston Common (yeah, it’s Common, not Commons - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Common - who knew). Come visit!

Ok, in all honesty, we’re really liking the city so far. Keep your eyes peeled for us around town - we’re going to be making some big moves. Big, thus-far-top-secret moves. Like, “we could tell you but we’d have to kill you” moves.

Stay tuned - more fun ahead.
